The Odd Couple
is the story of two divorced men ~ Felix Ungar, a neurotic neat freak, and Oscar Madison, a compulsive slob, both living together in the same apartment. Although they have been good friends for years, they soon discover that their personalities and attitudes on housekeeping are explosively incompatible.
After an unsuccessful suicide attempt due to his marriage having fallen apart, Felix crawls to the apartment of his long time friend Oscar Madison. Oscar, along with four of their best friends (they have been playing poker on Friday nights for years) soon realize that Felix's wife should have thrown him out years ago...the man is simply impossible to live with.
"The Odd Couple" began as a play written by Neil Simon, It was first performed in 1965 starring Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as Felix. Later in the show's run, Jack Klugman took over the role of Oscar. In 1968 the play was made into a movie starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon as Felix.
"The Odd Couple" is a fast moving comedy that combines quick, witty dialog with totally believable characters. There is so much going on on the stage that sometimes it appears that the hardest part of watching the play is knowing where to watch. Don't you know an Oscar or a Felix? Sit back and enjoy this Neil Simon look at marriage, divorce and friends coping with life's changes.
